About Me

Dr. Shields is a psychotherapist specializing in individual, couples and family psychotherapy, and maintains a private practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

With over 30 years experience as a clinician, and a graduate of University of Tulsa with his doctorate in Counseling Psychology, Dr. Shields serves as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. He is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, National Board for Certified Counselors, and is licensed in professional counseling in Oklahoma and Washington D.C.

In addition, Dr. Shields has been an adjunct professor at two local universities and has presented at National conferences and to general audiences on various topics including stress management, conflict resolution and post traumatic stress disorder.

Dr. Shields is a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist. His treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. He incorporates a blend of conventional and alternatives approaches, drawing upon a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. With sensitivity and compassion, he works with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals.
